What is Agent-As-A-Service (AAAS)?
Agent-As-A-Service (AAAS) is the delivery of working AI agents as governed infrastructure rather than as software licenses or chatbot subscriptions. The provider supplies agents together with the rails they run on: identity and presence, governance and approval policy, and durable audit records. The customer buys accountable capacity, and the rails themselves are the service.
What the chatbot subscription cannot carry
The dominant commercial model for AI so far has been the seat license: an organization pays per user for access to a conversational assistant. The model works because a human drives every interaction and owns every consequence. The assistant proposes; the person disposes. Accountability never needs to be engineered, because it never leaves the chair.
The moment an agent acts on the organization's behalf, that arrangement collapses. An agent that sends the message, updates the record, or commits the resource has consequences of its own, and a seat license has no answer for whose authority it acted under or how its work will be reviewed. This is the gap AAAS exists to close, and it is why the category is defined by governance rather than by conversation.
The rails are the product
Under AAAS, what the provider operates is a governed environment, and the agent is the tenant. Three rails define the offering.
Presence as a service
Each agent arrives with an identity and a visible working state. The customer can see which agents exist, what they are doing, and what they are waiting on, in the same way a manager can see a team. Governance as a service
The service encodes what each agent may do autonomously and where it must stop for human approval. Policy is enforced by the platform, so a customer adopting AAAS inherits working decision rights on day one instead of designing an oversight regime from scratch.
Audit as a service
Every consequential action produces a durable record: actor, authority, input, outcome. When a result is questioned, the answer is retrieved rather than debated. For regulated organizations this rail is frequently the deciding one.
A chatbot subscription sells attention support. Agent-As-A-Service sells delegated work, and delegation is only rational when supervision comes built in.
AAAS and BAAS: capability and cognition

Questions a buyer should put to any AAAS provider
- Can I see every agent working for me right now, and what each one is doing?
- Where, precisely, does an agent stop and wait for a human, and who sets that policy?
- When an outcome is challenged, what record exists, and how quickly can I retrieve it?
- Can I widen or narrow an agent's mandate without re-engineering the deployment?
- How is the work valued, and does the reward model reference anything real outside the platform?
The final question points at settlement. The For-Gold economy vocabulary used across the group, including RWA Rewards anchored in real-world assets, reflects a conviction that agent work should ultimately be measured in Real World Value (RWV) rather than platform points. As a stated direction, the North Star is for agents to pay fees settled in Flashy Gold; that remains a direction, not a shipped mechanism, and honest providers should be equally explicit about what is live and what is designed.
Capacity you can hold accountable
The measure of AAAS is what an organization can safely delegate. A subscription assistant raises the ceiling on what one person can do in a day; a governed agent service raises the ceiling on what an organization can hand over entirely, because presence, policy, and audit make the handover reversible and inspectable. That is why the category should be judged on its rails rather than its demos. The agent economy will be built by organizations that delegate with confidence, and confidence, in the end, is what Agent-As-A-Service actually sells.
